Alix: I’ve seen the Amour & Chocolate series on my GoodReads feed for awhile now. It seems like a fun & good series so when I saw #4 was available for review, I couldn’t resist requesting it! I’ve now challenged myself to read the other 3 in the series before! I requested Emma: A Latter-Day Tale because I am a total sucker for any Austen adaptation! I haven’t read an Emma based one in awhile so I’m looking forward to reading it!

Paola: “Some things are permanent. Indelible. And they cannot be changed back. Joy Malone learns this the night she sees a stranger with all-black eyes across a crowded room—right before the mystery boy tries to cut out her eye.” Um whoa?? Of course I need to know what’s going on here. Sold!

Alix: And look here, my self-challenge to read the Amour & Chocolate series is off to a good start already! I bought the first book in the series on Tuesday and have already finished it! It wasn’t a hit with me but I’m continuing on! :P

Alix: I am super excited we were approved for the ARC Awaken (Abandon #3)!! This is probably the second most excited I’ve been about getting a book for early review (the first still being Fangirl). I had mixed feelings about Underworld (Abandon #2) but I am a Meg Cabot fangirl to the core and am really looking forward to how this modern day retelling of the myth of Persephone ends! Brooklyn Girls is a NetGalley discovery for me. I’m wasn’t familiar with the title/author but the name and cover caught my eye. From the description it is a New Adult book, which is a sub-genre (or genre? has there been a decision on that yet?) that I’m really enjoying and reading more of as more titles in it are being released as such.

Paola: Bloomsbury, did you approve me for The Bone Season so quickly because you were trying to make up for ruthlessly rejecting me when I requested Crown of Midnight???? (Which, btw, I will never recover from??? AND TWO DAYS BEFORE MY BIRTHDAY??? #NotBitterAtAll) Okay, fine. Your roundabout apology is accepted. Maybe. But I am really pretty thrilled to get approved for this one because it’s poised to be a very big deal when it releases in August and I want to see what all the hype is about! I’ve heard good things!

stack016_libraryPaola: Okay, we need to talk. Why did you guys allow me to pick up that first Sarah Dessen book I got a few weeks ago?? Because now I’m on my THIRD and I think it’s becoming a full-fledged addiction. STOP. WHAT IS GOING ON. I don’t even normally read this genre!! (Alix’s note: Welcome to the world of contemporary YA!) As for A Certain Slant of Light, I believe it’s finally time for me to discover for myself just why so many people love this book. Better late than never? Err…

Paola: Have you ever felt like a book is just STALKING you?? Well, that’s exactly how I felt about Life After Life. I was seeing it absolutely everywhere. It’s a very hyped, recently released book so it was appearing on all the places I go to shop for books as well as newsletters I subscribe to. So I took a hint from the universe and reserved it… and now after reading three pages I’m already hooked. EEK.

Paola: I read Gone With the Wind several years ago and loved it. It is officially one of the longest books ever, but there is so much brilliant characterization going on that I can’t even describe it to you. And yes, I love Scarlett O’Hara… but it’s Melanie who really won my heart by the end. The book has been on my wishlist forever so when it came up as a Kindle Daily Deal earlier this week I immediately snatched it up. $1.99 for a massive 600 page book that I won’t have to lug around cause it’s digital?? YES PLEASE.

Scarlet was NOT on sale… I bought it because I needed to have it. NEEDED. I loved Cinder (review coming soon… expect Sailor Moon babble) and decided I would probably keel over if I didn’t get the 2nd book right away.

Alix: Kobo was having another sale (I really cannot resist them) so I decided to pick up Throne of Glass. If you follow us on Twitter you’ll have seen the freak out Paola had over the ARC release of the 2nd book in the series Crown of Midnight at BEA and on NetGalley (which to Paola’s utter devastation we didn’t get approved of) so that plus Paola’s 4.5-star review of it made me decide to jump on the bandwagon (and it didn’t hurt that it cost me $2)!

Paola: Not now, still freaking out over Rose Under Fire. I’ll talk to you when I’m done. And after I re-read Code Name Verity for the 3rd or 20th time… (Thank you, Disney Book Group!!!)

Alix: The dinner is a psychological mystery/thriller I’ve been wanting to read for awhile now. It’s a definitely departure from the usual books we talk about here but mystery thrillers are one of my other favourite genres of books and how could I resist a book labeled “The European Gone Girl” (a book that months later still has me feeling)?

Paola: I went through an entire week of seeing Alexandra Bracken books everywhere I looked. I took it as a sign that I should find one and read it. My library didn’t have The Darkest Minds but Brightly Woven was on the shelf so I took that instead. I also grabbed Fire Study and Magic Study since I enjoyed the first book in the series (Poison Study; review coming soon!). Err, tons of fantasy books for me this time… /nerd

Alix: Kobo was having a sale last week for Victoria Day so naturally I knew I was going to buy something (I have 0 book sale willpower). The Gathering has been on my radar since I finished Armstrong’s other series The Darkest Powers, which I enjoyed, so I picked up when I saw it was discounted. Rush Me was all over my GR timeline last month and being a fan of New Adult, I decided to finally buy it.

Paola: I have approximately 0 willpower so I bought Quintana of Charyn immediately after finishing Froi of the Exiles a few days ago. I won’t claim it was a rational decision because I hit the buy button right after being facepunched by the feels. Also, I REGRET NOTHING.
